“My grandmother Rosa Hart Bey made these uniforms for my sister Fatima Bey and I. It was my favorite outfit. I wanted to wear it every day. I remember this picture day. It was at Sears on Elizabeth Ave in Newark. I was 4 and Fatima was 3. I insisted on wearing grandma's purple suit (that's what I called it). I remember when my father was in the hospital in 2005 and he asked me to hand him his wallet. He took out this picture. He carried it with him every day of his life until the day he died. It was my favorite picture before that moment, but it meant so much more afterwards. So glad my nephews found it.”
