The Newarkive is a living multimedia archive sharing images and stories of and by Newark's intergenerational communities. We engage with Newarkers and local archives to share the stories, memories, and dreams that illustrate the rich and vibrant lives we make and communities we build.
The Newarkive is an accessible space to continuously revisit, reexamine, celebrate, and amplify the people and experiences that comprise and inform the past, present, and future of this city. We want this platform to serve as connective tissue, allowing us to delve beneath a surface level understanding of ourselves and aid in strengthening our communities.
The Newarkive was founded in 2018 by Newark-based filmmakers LeRon Lee and Yvonne Michelle Shirley.
